Catalonia has safety regulations for rail tunnels drawn up in 1997, but the experience built up in recent years in the large number of railway projects it has executed indicated in 2014 that the regulations needed updating. The regions and sustainability department, together with Infraestructures.cat, therefore commissioned the preparation of new regulations.

The experience built up in recent years by the staff of engineers at im3, taking part in large numbers of railway projects,

as well as the addition to the tender team of experts of international standing, meant that im3 was chosen to draw up these regulations.

This award reinforces im3’s wide experience in infrastructure installation projects. Im3’s curriculum vitae includes a role in projects like Barcelona Metro Line 9, the Llobregat desalination plant and the Segarra-Garrigues irrigation system.
